IHS Markit compiles data from the Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) for more than 40 economies worldwide. Monthly reports are derived from survey data collected from senior executives at private sector companies. This month, private sector firms in the United States indicated a vast decline for April. Manufacturing and service sector companies noticed a decline while the United States continued to battle the COVID-19 pandemic. Compared to the 40.9 listed in March, the IHS Markit Flash U.S. Composite PMI for April fell to 27.4.
