Demand for Manufacturing Workers Remains Elevated After Employment Gains Flatten

Manufacturing employment has plateaued yet remains 5% above the average level from the end of the Great Financial Crisis (GFC) to the beginning of the COVID recession (July 2009 to February 2020). Despite this moderation in employment gains, job openings remain over three times higher than the average in the same interrecession period after declining from their peak in April 2022.
